Your website name is an important sign for your users looking for something in Google search.
But what do you do when Google doesn’t automatically figure out the name of your site and you want to change the way it’s shown to help Google search pick the right site name and show it.
You can provide structured data as part of your website by adding a bit of structured data into the content of your home page you can tell Google search how you’d like the site name to be shown in the search results. For those of you who can’t add structured data into the content of their site make sure that the name of your site consistently appears in the title of all pages. Some content Management Systems let you do that by setting a site-wide name some might require you to manually add the site name to the page titles either before the page’s specific title or after it.
Also, note that this only works for subdomains or top level domains but not on a per directory level. After you’ve done this give it a bit of time for Google to process your updates to show the site name. You can also use search console and request the home page to be re-indexed with the new markup to speed that process up a notch.
